Merry Christmas!

Games Update
Happy December everyone! With the new year about to roll around, we're coming up on our 1 year anniversary! Very exciting. In the meantime, I've added a few more holiday games and updated Group 1 and Group 2 games! Don't forget to check the advent activity every day - previous days will be available to grab, but the event will be inaccessable on January 1!

I'm Back!
Hello everyone! Now that Nanowrimo is over, I can dedicate more time to the TCG. This week I have been thinking of interesting Christmas activities for you all and tomorrow you will be able to start playing! There will be a full game update on Sunday but I wanted to make sure I got the Christmas event up before the 1st of the month.

Halfway through week 3 and almost done! I expect to have time before the end of November to update games, upload the Christmas games, and create several new card sets. Feel free to suggest some Christmas sets you want to see :)

Forms
All forms have been answered. I apologize to some of you who have waited half a month for an answer, but I have been having problems with my computer. It freezes every so often, randomly, whenever it feels like it, so sometimes I'll try to get online and it will prevent me by stopping all activity.
Game Update
Group 1 and 2 games have been updated.
You may also still participate in the holiday activities and, as always, the crosswords and word search are available to those who haven't completed them yet. The holiday pick-a-book has also started a new round, so you may submit your book choice once again. :) You may pick the same book or a different one - the prizes will be different this time.

Please take 3 cards of choice from 3 separate regular sets, and tell me what you take. I am doing Nanowrimo this year so I won't have a lot of time to make card sets. Instead I will be updating with choice and random freebies throughout the month. Please make sure you check back!

New Sets
We have quite a few new sets. Please read the guidelines for taking freebies, and comment what you take!
You may also take one extra choice from any of the holiday sets (that does not include Dark Lover).
When I make holiday sets, I try to pick favorite childhood characters. There will always be a Snoopy one (because I love Snoopy :P) but the others I try to switch up. If you'd like to suggest some characters for future holiday sets, please do so in the comments. :)

This Weekend's Updates
I have a few exciting things planned for this weekend.
First of all, tomorrow (Friday) I am going to be embarking on a personal challenge to read for 12 hours straight. Every time I finish a book, in my in-between "relaxing time" I will make a card set for that book! There also might be some general freebies in line, so check back for those updates. If this seems like a successful endeavor and you guys like what I do for you, I'll do the same for my next personal challenge (reading for 24 hours straight!).
Secondly, Saturday I am going to be uploading all the Halloween games and card sets I've prepared. Some of the games will be just like the usual holiday ones - quotes, author identification, card guess, etc - but there will also be some special Halloween-only activities and freebies that will run only until the holiday itself.
Third, I noticed that some of you have "book journals" or blogs dedicated primarily to your reading. If you'd like for those websites to be listed with your name on the members list, please comment on this post with the URLs. I think it would be really awesome to be able to easily access other members' thoughts on the books they're reading. (If you're interested, mine is called Book Avenue.)
Look forward to seeing your reactions to the new activities when I get them up, and I also hope you guys will benefit from my personal challenges!

I've checked the members list today for activity and existence. Some websites aren't working and some people haven't updated for two months (or more). If you'd like to change your status to hiatus, please fill out the hiatus form. Let me know where you are!
Member's Favorites
I'd also like to remind you all about the Members Favorites set. You get one card for submitting your entry, plus once the set is completed you'll get your submitted card & another choice from the set. You'll get 3 cards worth 5 just for submitting an entry; otherwise, you'll only be able to get 1 card worth 2. So go and submit your favorite book-to-movie cover!
Group 1 Games
Group 1 games are updated. I really wanted a full update but unfortunately when I sat down to update the games I realized that all of my "game updating" books are still in boxes from my move! The group 2 games will be updated when I can find the boxes they're in; until then expect regular updates of group 1 games. I'm sorry!

Full Game Update and New Card Sets
It has been a really busy month for me in many ways but I don't expect the rest of the year to be anywhere near as complicated. I'll have regular card sets and game updates in the future; for now, you'll have to wait until tomorrow to get them. :P Also, I will be opening some Autumn/Halloween/Thanksgiving activities soon which will last until December, including new holiday card sets.
Please join the forum! I will start posting new topics and updates and such over there throughout the course of my day off work tomorrow. Remember, to earn prizes for levelling up, mastering, and other activities, you have to be a member of the forum!

Update, Part III
See below for Parts I and II! This update concerns the games. They're all updated! I've also implemented a new method for the Crossword Puzzles; instead of getting rid of them as soon as someone solves them, anyone can solve them at any time! However, remember, you can only submit your answers for them once. If you have already solved any of those, you cannot submit again!
The games are now divided into groups. All three groups will be updated at least once a month; however, if I find I have a little extra time, some of the games (especially Group 1) may be updated more than once a month.
Stay tuned for Part IV of these updates, which will be added onto this update right below this sentence you are currently reading. In it, I will have information about more activities, the forums, and new contests. Thanks for your patience!

Update, Part I
The first update today consists of new card sets and freebies from those. Remember to comment with what you take! Please keep in mind that when I say even cards or odd cards, I mean you must take even-numbered (2,4,6,8, etc) or odd-numbered (1,3,5,7, etc) cards.
Special Sets
First, we have many more author cards. You may take one from the All Authors set that is numbered after 27. That means you can choose one from 28-42. :)
Second, there is a new author set for JRR Tolkien. You may take one choice from that set.
Third, we have our first book cover special set, The Iliad by Homer. You may take two even cards from this set.

Totals

Update, Part II
Part II is just to let you all know that I have answered ALL forms in my inbox for this TCG. If you didn't hear back from me about something, I didn't get the form! I've also deleted members without post pages for the TCG and emailed pending members who never put up their starter packs. Affiliates that lead to broken links or which seem to have closed have also been deleted.

Freebies to Hold You Over
I have the day off work tomorrow and I plan on expanding the games section with a full game update, uploading several new card sets and some special ones to boot, possibly a new layout (if I can get it working!), and as mentioned in the previous post, more forum activities. Until then, you may take 10 cards of choice. Only two can be from a special worth-2 set, and you can't take more than two cards from a single set. Comment with what you take!

Apology
I seem to be doing this a lot lately, and for that I am really sorry. Part of it is because members don't seem to have very much interest in this game, so whatever free time I do have, it's hard to have the motivation to update a site which no one seems to care about. This makes me sad! In any case, I have been really busy with work and life activities (moving again requires us to pack up everything that we just unpacked...), and so I haven't been able to keep up with this TCG. I would, however, like to continue running it if the interest is still there. So instead of having bi-monthly games, I will be making the games monthly. I will also be moving message boards to something that isn't quite so spammable if I can, because I seem to spend the majority of the time working on this TCG by deleting spam. There will be more contests that are more accessible, as no one seemed interested in either of the two contests I have put up, and there will be more active activities on the new forum which will hold you guys over during the month between game updates.

I still have some new sets sitting around that I never uploaded, so within the next few days expect to see those appear.
Suggestions
If there is anything you want to suggest, new games, card sets, ways to make this TCG more active, etc, please feel free to let me know in the comments or by contacting me otherwise.

Bi-monthly games have been updated for a few days... Seems I forgot to tell you all about it! :P Anyway, I'll be poking around the forum for a little bit this week to delete all the spam, and on my next update I'll have some new card sets!

Sorry!!!
First of all, I really have to apologize because I updated all the games on July 7 but did not have the Internet connection to upload them! My connection has been nothing but sporadic the past few weeks but I think we have it under control. I've also been having life stresses (as I mentioned before) which have prevented extended time online - so even if I could get on, I probably wouldn't be able to stay long enough for a proper update. However, to make it up to you all, I've done a lot for today's update!
Forum Updates
At the forum today, you can find one new freebies post, as well as an old one that's still open. In addition to that, I've posted a new book club question and given out rewards to the two (only two!) people who replied to the previous book club question. The new question deals with what you're reading and what you like to read so hopefully it'll be more enthralling to a larger number of you.
New Card Sets
Here I've scooped up more of the suggestions given on the forum, and made a few for book covers that I find stunning. Mandi, Fatima, Corli, and Amy can all take this 20-point used book ( ) for giving suggestions. Doesn't anyone else want to suggest? There are 10 new sets. You may take 14 cards of choice, with no more than two cards from one set. As always, remember to comment with what you take.
Game Update
The full game update also includes new activities - apprenticeship, where you will individually complete certain tasks to receive an ending prize, book cover design contest, a new mega master set, and a favorites set (member-submitted card set). I will also be announcing soon new prizes for the writing contest, aforementioned and which no one seems to have any interest in. At the moment, you get lots of cards for winning, but I may make a more tangible prize - for example, a free advanced readers copy version of a random book, various Harry Potter promotional materials (for those interested), or a gift card to Amazon.com. This is just something I'm thinking of, and may decide instead to attach these possible prizes to a more suitable activity. What would you all think if I offered these sorts of things?
In addition to all this, there are also new sidebar freebies. :)

I know I owe you all a full game update and I assure you it will be coming this weekend... Things have been really hectic around here and I haven't had a lot of time to settle down - just write a few emails, post a few messages, and then get up and go again! (Or sleep, as the case may be....) However, Saturday I have the day off, and I plan on using it to relax. Expect new card sets, the games update, and a new activity then. :) And to those who have sent in the join form - your starter packs will also be sent on Saturday, but you may play the games that are currently up if you'd like. Ideas
I'm throwing around a few ideas for the TCG and want to know what you guys think. There hasn't been a lot of participation anywhere - not at the forums, not in comments/grabbing cards from updates, not on the side bar, and from what I can tell from trade posts, not even in playing games! My ideas are either an apprenticeship activity, where each individual member has to complete certain tasks (there will be 6 or 7) and after completing those gets monthly prizes (choices, randoms, etc), OR a TCG-wide activity with teams, where each member submits completed tasks to add points to the team, and the team with the most points at the end of a round would get special prizes (as would members with the most points no matter what team, and other miscellanous mentionables). I don't want to construct either of these activities without your guys' input - I'm also all for any other suggestions to help encourage participation. Please comment and let me know what you think!

New Card Sets
We have several new card sets, and I've remade the Out card set which was misplaced during the server move. You may take a total of 4 cards, but only up to 2 cards from one set.
If you have any Out cards, you may replace the ones you have with the new card. Otherwise, they may not line up properly to make a clean book cover puzzle image. Remember, you can only replace the one that you already have - you may not take a freebie from this set!
Full Game Update
A full game update is due, so it's done! I've also opened a contest and added a sidebar freebies option to the left. This will be updated every time I update the TCG with something.
Forum
Everyone please remember to sign up for the forum. There are some activities there from which you can earn cards, and you cannot earn prizes for leveling up or mastering without joining! Also, all card set suggestions are to be made at the forum. I am running out of suggestions from you guys; pretty soon I'll just be making sets for books I like!

I was under the impression that the PHPBB forums would transfer without any problems, but such was not the case! I have to rebuild everything from scratch and unfortunately because of that I lost all the pending level-ups. Same goes with masters! I apologize!

Game Prizes
I just want to note something with game prizes - I realize that I run a risk by having a randomizer script but I wanted to do this so that you'll have a variety to choose from and everyone wouldn't get the same prizes. However, I'm noticing that some of you are collecting your "collecting sets" MUCH faster than you probably should be. There are 1,028 cards on this TCG; it's highly unlikely that you're getting a card from your set every time you go to a prize page, especially if quite a few of you are. It is cheating if you refresh to get the card you want, or even if you go and grab the card you want with the claim that "it showed up on the page." Come on guys, you're taking the fun out of the game! If you wanted to have a whole bunch of book covers on your page, why not just put them there?
If I see this continue, I will probably start to run prize pages with 10 or so cards that I pick out for you to choose from. It's impossible to know if this is actually what's happening, or if the few of you are just lucky, but just the same, it does seem odd that half the members get random cards they aren't collecting and half the members get cards they're collecting every time! :)

As promised, there is a full games update including a few new games: Bestsellers, Word Lore (or word origins, if you prefer), and Back Cover. I've also opened two activities: Mega Masters and Member Cards. A new round of freebies is up also; this time it's cards that are in series or trilogies.
The miscellaneous scraps I have left to do from the down time and the move include:
Remake cardset Out by Kirino Natsuo. It seems to have gotten lost somewhere along the way.Rebuild the forum and figure out how to get rid of the spam bots.- Find all the Easter eggs & delete them.
Contact Fatima about her staff duties..Read over the about/info page and make sure everything is still in effect.
If you have any suggestions, please fill out the General Contact form. Also, if you find any more Easter eggs, tell me where they are! I lost the listing of holiday games and therefore the locations of the Easter eggs.

We have 12! new card sets. You may take 10 cards total with no more than 2 cards from a single set. Be sure to also comment with what you take!
Because of this card set update, we now have over 20 authors in the special All Authors set! Therefore, it is now masterable. Remember, it is masterable by every 20 cards (1-20, 21-40, etc). I have also added our first single author set for JK Rowling. You may take one card from this set and comment.
You all may also take this special card, commemorating over 1,000 cards!
All the games are running again with proper prizes, but not updated yet. I will be doing the full game update tomorrow, so if you happened to visit today feel free to play last round if you haven't yet! Also I just got a new job so my updating schedule will be changing once I get my schedule in order. "Grand Opening" games will continue throughout the month of May. Remember, if you played them before, they are the same so you cannot play them again yet!
Some new games and activities will be introduced, so look out for those!

Hello! I haven't disappeared, I promise. And I'd really still like to run the TCG (if it seems like members are still interested). The server change was a success, but then I ran into a PHP problem which I amazingly *just* figured out how to fix today. :P However, it means I have to go through every single PHP file to change the header/footer codes, as well as the card/randomizer code on the game prizes pages. This will take a few days, but pending that, we should be up and running again very soon!
Thank you very much for your patience. If you happen to have read this, you can take 2 regular cards of choice (please comment). When I return with the scripting all done, there will be several new card sets, a full game update, and miscellaneous other freebies and fun things.

First, there are some issues I'd like to address, then on to the fun. :)
Those Issues I Mentioned
You must log every single card you put on your trade post. I went through some of the member list and found that a lot of you are simply putting "received starter pack" or "played easy puzzle game" without logging which cards were received. It is a vital part of the game to log every card you get - else, you have no proof that you received your cards without cheating. Please remember to record everything, even down to the currency! Thanks!
Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows
I, personally, am not a huge fan of the books; however, I know a lot of you are, so here's the cardset for the new cover! Take one card of choice and comment!

A good update for today!
Forms
We've had some progress. :) All forms work now, including the join form - in other words, everything should be in working order. I apologize for all of this! For your patience, you may take one regular card of choice (please comment it!). The current 16 members probably got several emails concerning their membership (pending & approved) - that's because I moved scripts to using Enthusiast. There are still a few more bugs to work out (such as making the collecting set show on the members page, and deleting all the places it says "country" :p), but everyone's in there.

Holiday Contest
Just want to advertise the holiday contest here... In case you missed it. :p It's Easter, so you all get to color your own egg! Everyone is allowed two submissions each, and you get a large prize just for submitting. Check it out! Submissions are due by April 21.

Sometime this week I will be defining the rules for the level name contest, so get your thinkers going. You'll have to think of 10 different level names related to books or reading in general (none specific to one series or author), and the best voted wins. Stay tuned for that...
Prejoiner Starter Packs
I got a number of emails about starter packs (thank you!) but there are still several members who I haven't heard from! To receive your starter pack, email me (books@inthelouvre.org) with the following information:
Name
Trade Post URL (this must be up-to-date)
Collecting Set Choice
As I receive each email, I will send out each starter pack. Remember, you will receive
- 3 random regular (worth 1) cards from your set choice
- 7 random regular (worth 1) cards
- 2 random special (worth 2) cards
You have until April 5 to send me this email. If you don't send it by then, I will be removing you from the members list. You're welcome to rejoin, but it won't be with prejoin status!

I see that only 5 of you have joined the forum. It is not necessarily required; however, you cannot earn cards for level-ups, masters, donations, or a number of other activities without joining. Please do so as soon as you can!

Activities
All activities that are currently running are uploaded. Schedule will take effect beginning April (which means that bi-monthly games will be updated April 13, and since it's so late in March, monthly games will not be updated until May 4). This gives plenty of time (I hope) for you to familiarize yourselves with the games and to work on the more difficult monthly games. Until then, I'll be (hopefully) adding the contests and other missing activities.
